How to build a skincare routine How to build a skincare routine

DALTON Skincare Routine

Every skin is different, and so is your personal skincare routine. Nevertheless, there are some essentials that every routine should include. We will show you the most important steps and the right order to apply your skincare products.

Daily essentials

To all skincare newbies: These essentials should be an integral part of your daily routine. As we all know, it takes an established routine to really make a difference. The first step is to get the basics right. Only then can further ingredients and add-on products be absorbed by your skin and achieve a visible effect.

Step 1: Cleanse your skin every morning and evening to get rid of sebum buildup, sweat, dirt and make-up. Cleansing foam or cleansing milk – it’s up to you which cleanser you choose. If you have dry skin, you might prefer a cleansing milk, while lightweight gels or fluids are more suitable for oily skin. It is best to use lukewarm water to wash your face, because it doesn’t strip the skin of moisture. You can find more tips on facial cleansing in our Cleansing Guide.

Step 2: After cleansing, follow with a toner. This serves two purposes in your skincare routine: It removes any residue of dirt or make-up that is left on the skin after cleansing and leaves a fresh feeling on the skin. At the same time, it restores the skin’s pH after cleansing. It can also moisturize, soothe or add an anti-aging effect. For sensitive skin, it is best to use a fragrance-free toner. You can find more information and tips in our DALTON Toner Guide.

Step 3: Serums make it easier to target individual skin concerns and goals and give your routine a specific focus. You want to prevent premature skin aging and incorporate some anti-aging into your beauty regime? Here, too, a serum is an excellent choice.

Step 4: Finish with a moisturizer that complements your skin type. This can be anything from a lightweight gel to a rich face cream.

How important is an eye cream?

We are often asked the question whether an eye cream is really necessary. Our answer is always the same. Yes, it is worth it. The skin around the eyes is much thinner and more sensitive than the skin on the rest of your face, which is why it needs a more potent product. It makes perfect sense to work with richer formulas when the first fine lines or wrinkles appear, for example. Tired skin, dry patches, dark circles and puffy eyes can also be improved with the right eye cream.

Don’t forget UV protection

Finish your skincare routine by applying a broad-spectrum sunscreen! It’s not just on hot summer days that you need to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. It is important to wear sunscreen in winter, too. Did you know that UV rays can accelerate skin aging, promote free radicals or even promote pimple marks?

Weekly Must-haves

To further improve the appearance of your skin, you can include exfoliants and masks in your routine once to three times a week. Exfoliants help to get rid of dead skin cells and make the skin more receptive to the ingredients of other products. Chemical peels (e.g. AHA peel, BHA peel) go one step further. They can have an anti-aging effect and reduce the look of dark spots. Face Masks provide an additional boost: Hydrating masks moisturize dry skin, while mattifying face masks provide quick relief for oily skin or combination skin.

Q&A

Here are your most frequently asked questions about skincare routines and our answers.

FAQ Skincare Routine FAQ Skincare Routine

Why should you apply sunscreen at the end of your routine?

Unless you use a very rich, lipid-containing moisturizer, the sunscreen must always be applied at the end. This guarantees that the UV filters can really settle on the skin. The exceptions are BB creams and foundations, where you apply the sunscreen underneath. Always wait 15-20 minutes after application before you layer another product or before you go into the sun, because that’s how long it takes for the sunscreen to reach the highest level of protection.

Why do the moisturizers not contain SPF?

Our credo is: Individual skincare for every skin type. However, that requires a very wide variety of products. That is also why we do not have classic day creams and night creams. You can use our face creams in the morning as well as in the evening. Simply apply your favorite cream and then add a sunscreen in the morning – done!

Which products should I avoid during pregnancy and while breastfeeding?

We recommend that you talk to your doctor before using the following products and ingredients: Retinol (vitamin A) and chemical peels (AHA, BHA and PHA peels).

Can I combine products from different collections with each other?

Of course! During product development, we make sure that all our products can be combined with each other. You can create your own individual face care routine tailored to your skin type and needs.
