Panthenol

The active ingredient panthenol is commonly used for hair products and best known for promoting wound healing in ointments. However, it is an ingredient that can do much more and from the use of which your skin will certainly benefit. Why? Read on to learn more.

Panthenol Explained

Panthenol is also known as dexpanthenol (D-Panthenol). The name dexpanthenol is mainly used in a medical context. It is a B-vitamin-precursor, the so-called provitamin B5. Provitamin B5 itself has no cosmetic relevance. However, as soon as it is absorbed by the skin or the body, it can be converted into pantothenic acid (vitamin B5), which is involved in many metabolic functions. This vitamin stimulates lipid synthesis and supports the formation of new skin cells, which also promotes skin regeneration. By the way, dexpanthenol is a naturally occuring ingredient that is also found in many foods, such as whole grain products, eggs, rice, nuts and milk.

In a nutshell panthenol aka D-panthenol is a very well researched and established active ingredient that can be found in hair products and various sprays, ointments (for burns and scars) or creams for dry skin.

Our DALTON Product Recommendations

1. Blemish-prone skin: In addition to wound healing properties, maintaining a strong and stable skin barrier plays an important role in the fight against pimples and inflammation. That is why many of our products from the DERMA CONTROL anti-pimple collection contain panthenol, like our Anti-Blemish Moisturizing Cream, the Mattifying Gel, the SOS Anti-Blemish Concentrate and our Purifying Toner. To relieve acute inflammation without overwhelming the skin, our smoothing Anti-Aging BB Cream is also enriched with panthenol.

2. Sensitive skin and redness: Panthenol is just a perfect ingredient for sensitive skin types with a weakened skin barrier. Our Gentle Cleansing Milk soothes your skin in the first step of your routine. The REDNESS CONTROL Anti-Redness Mask strengthens the capillaries and prevents irritation. You can also add the TRIPLE CERAMIDE Serum with anti-aging properties to your skincare routine in order to strengthen the skin barrier and repair damaged skin.

3. Anti-Aging: Since panthenol has the ability to bind moisture, it is the perfect partner for our skin-plumping duo of hyaluronic acid and urea. You can find this combo in our highly-concentrated HYALURONIC UREA Ampoules. The panthenol-containing S.E.A. Marine Stem Cell Serum boosts cell renewal and thus accelerates the skin’s natural repair mechanisms.

4. Body products: Where is panthenol an absolute must-have ingredient? That’s right, in a soothing After Sun Body Lotion. This product has a hydrating and cooling effect, too. The regenerating and moisturizing Hand Cream also provides quick relief.
