Vitamin E

Anti-Aging, antioxidant protection against free radicals and long-lasting moisturization – the benefits of vitamin E on our skin are incredibly versatile. Read on to find out what else this powerhouse vitamin has to offer.

Vitamin E does not refer to a single active ingredient, but to a whole group of fat-soluble vitamins; so-called tocopherols. One of the best known and most researched forms of vitamin E is alpha-tocopherol. Unlike a provitamin, such as panthenol, this powerful antioxidant is a “pure vitamin“ that does not need to be converted in the body first. It plays an important role in the formation of new skin cells and their cell division. As a free radical scavenger, tocopherol fends off oxidative stress and protects us from the negative effects of harmful environmental influences.

Is vitamin E suitable for your skin?

We love vitamin E. But which skin types benefit most from a moisturizer with vitamin E?

1. Vitamin-E-containing products are ideal if you suffer from UV-induced skin damage.

2. In combination with vitamin C, tocopherol helps to reduce hyperpigmentation.

3. Thanks to its antioxidant benefits, vitamin E protects the skin from premature aging.

4. A high content of vitamin E also makes sense in anti-aging products – for smooth and radiant skin.

Natural intake of vitamin E in your diet

Vitamin E benefits your body from the outside as well as from the inside. Naturally, the anti-aging vitamin does not only promote healthy skin. Vitamin E is also an important nutrient for the body. So which foods contain this valuable vitamin? Good sources of vitamin E are vegetable oils, such as olive oil or sunflower oil. If your balanced diet also includes seeds, nuts and many whole grain products, this should cover the required intake of vitamin E. The recommended daily vitamin E intake for a woman between the ages of 20 and 65 is about 12 milligrams. For men, the daily requirement is about 14 milligrams. If you eat foods with a high content of vitamin E, it is not that difficult to provide your body with sufficient amounts. 20 grams of almonds, for example, contain just under 12 milligrams. If you add walnuts to your diet, you also provide your body with additional unsaturated fatty acids, such as omega-3 fatty acids.

Effects of vitamin E deficiency

Insufficient intake of vitamin E jeopardizes beautiful skin. It results in cracked, dry skin as well as premature skin aging. The vitamin’s antioxidant effect reduces oxidative damage (e.g. from UV radiation), which might otherwise accelerate the aging process.
