Skincare for Eczema Soothe itching skin

Eczema - Symptoms & Causes

Dry skin, itching rashes, redness, rough or scaly patches of skin – most eczema sufferers have to contend with one or more of these symptoms. Eczema (atopic eczema, atopic dermatitis, neurodermatitis) is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that usually cycles through flares and periods of remission. There are different factors that can exacerbate acute episodes: Diet and food allergies (wheat, cow milk) can play a role, as well as stress and external triggers like allergens and irritants.

Eczema treatments: What to look out for

During acute eczema flares, it is most important to soothe itchy skin and break the vicious itch-scratch cycle. However, a reliable, eczema-friendly skincare routine is also essential in the periods between flare-ups.

Best eczema products to relieve itch

Eczema skin care has two main goals: Soothe severe itching and strengthen eczema-prone, sensitive skin in the long term. To achieve that, many eczema creams, lotions and ointments rely on original Dead Sea salt, as it is very gentle on the skin, relieves itchiness and promotes healing.

Anti-itch products for facial eczema

It is important to cleanse your face twice a day, in the morning and in the evening. You should use a gentle, non-irritating cleanser like our JORDAN DEAD SEA SALT Cleansing Gel or our CLASSIC CLEAN Cleansing Milk. We also recommend to finish your cleansing routine with a refreshing toner to calm irritated skin and restore its natural pH value. Additionally, you can apply the JORDAN DEAD SEA SALT Tonic to affected skin areas throughout the day, to relieve itch and skin irritations. Tip: Can also be used as a hair tonic to treat an itchy scalp.

Of course, no skincare regimen is complete without a good moisturizer. We have two different face creams specifically designed for eczema and dry, itchy skin. Our lightweight Moisturizing Emulsion absorbs quickly to moisturize with a non-greasy feel. If you have very dry skin, we recommend our heavier lipid-replenishing 24h Cream with shea butter. Both of these fragrance-free anti-itch creams contain original Dead Sea salt and are ideal for skin prone to eczema and psoriasis.

Regular exfoliation and using face masks can help to prevent eczema flare-ups and offer quick itch relief. Very dry skin is often extremely rough and flaky. Exfoliation helps to remove dead skin cells and other build-up to reveal a fresher complexion and lets your skincare products penetrate deeper into your skin. (While adding an additional anti-aging effect by reducing the appearance of wrinkles).Tip: Right after exfoliating, apply our skin-soothing JORDAN DEAD SEA SALT Mask for very dry and eczema-prone skin.

When allergies or other triggers irritate the sensitive skin around your eyes, we recommend our SENSITIVE CARE Eye Cream to relieve itch and strengthen the skin barrier function. You can also apply a thicker layer around the eyes and use it as an eye mask.

Body products for eczema

Eczema usually affects not just the face, but also the hands, elbows, knees, neck and other parts of the body. It is important to find body creams and lotions with gentle, non-irritating ingredients. Specifically for skin prone to eczema and psoriasis, we have designed our anti-itch body lotion and our fragrance-free body wash and shampoo with original Dead Sea salt.

Complementary treatment

Treatment of severe eczema focuses on two main goals: Alleviate acute symptoms and prolong periods of remission. What really counts, is finding a way to tailor the treatment to every patient’s needs, since unfortunately, there is no universal solution that works for everyone. Each individual has to find out what works for them and what doesn’t – ideally with the help of a dermatologist. One of the most important factors in managing eczema is the careful avoidance of triggers. Those include psychological stress and allergic reactions to foods and environmental allergens. A good skincare routine with special eczema creams and lotions can help to strengthen the skin’s immune system, reduce inflammation and control both the itching and constant scratching. Immunotherapy can also be an effective treatment for people with atopic dermatitis, as well as UV light therapy and anti-inflammatory medications and ointments.
